At the time the mural was being designed, Chinese spy balloons flying over the United States were widely featured in the news.In the bottom right-hand corner, several purple roses can be seen. Although roses obviously do not grow underwater, they are a reference to the many rose bushes that once grew in the Kanaleneiland neighbourhood. For this reason, the area was also popularly known as the Rose Island.In the bottom left-hand corner, there is a large football. During the period when the mural was being painted, local boys could often be seen playing football nearby. And of course, Jan’s trademark mandarin is also present, right next to the football.==========-Deze mural is op initiatief van buurtbewoners tot stand gekomen. Hij bevindt zich op de zijgevel van een flat aan het Attleeplantsoen, op de hoek met de Adenauerlaan, vlak bij het Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal.Kunstenaar Jan Heinsbroek brengt in deze schildering de biodiversiteit onder water tot leven. Met het werk hoopt hij niet alleen de bewustwording van het klimaatprobleem te vergroten, maar ook de fantasie van kinderen te prikkelen.De schildering is niet alleen prachtig om te zien, maar bevat ook een aantal leuke en bijzondere details.Zo heeft de periscoop van de onderzeeër een oog, en persoonlijk denk ik dat de duikboot zelf er misschien ook wel één heeft. In de periode waarin de schildering werd ontworpen, waren Chinese spionageballonnen boven de Verenigde Staten volop in het nieuws.Rechtsonder zijn enkele paarse rozen te zien. Hoewel rozen natuurlijk niet onder water groeien, vormen ze een verwijzing naar de vele rozenstruiken die vroeger in de wijk Kanaleneiland stonden. Daardoor werd de wijk in de volksmond ook wel het Rozeneiland genoemd.Linksonder is een grote voetbal afgebeeld. In de periode waarin de schildering werd gemaakt, waren er regelmatig jongens uit de buurt aan het voetballen.
