In 1991, they were invited by the Witte de With Centre for Contemporary Art to replicate in Rotterdam a project they had carried out in The Bronx.They set to work in a local community centre: they sought out local residents and eventually selected eight people. They made plaster moulds of these people’s faces and upper bodies, and from these moulds they created polyester casts which they then painted to resemble the people as they actually looked. Three of these portraits hang on this wall, set against a bright blue background so that they stand out even more.--Aan de gevel aan de Boomgaardsstraat 189, bevindt zich het kunstwerk ‘Drie buurtbewoners’ van de kunstenaars John Ahearn en Rigoberto Torres.Het Amerikaanse kunstenaarsduo dat bestaat uit de John Ahearn en de in Puerto Rico geboren Rigoberto Torres staat bekend om hun gedetailleerde portretten van bewoners uit de omgeving. In 1991 werden ze uitgenodigd door het Witte de With Centre for Contemporary Art met het verzoek een project dat ze in The Bronx hadden uitgevoerd in Rotterdam te herhalen.In een lokaal buurthuis gingen ze aan het werk: ze gingen op zoek naar bewoners uit de wijk en selecteerden uiteindelijk acht personen. Van het gezicht en bovenlichaam van deze mensen maakten ze een gipsen mal, en van de mallen werden polyester afgietsels gemaakt die ze vervolgens beschilderden, zoals de mensen er daadwerkelijk uitzagen. Drie van deze portretten hangen op deze muur, tegen een felblauwe achtergrond zodat ze extra opvallen.","author_name":"Jesse","author_url":"https://streetartcities.com/users/c07f1a82-2bdc-45d8-896f-339a8e17fad5","thumbnail_url":"https://streetartcities.com/media/e/e3a0a938-2633-43e8-8bbf-d8e709809b0e/1024.webp","thumbnail_width":1024,"width":480,"height":480,"html":"","cache_age":3600}
