Flanked with dragon masks from Chinese opera, I wanted to weave some of my heritage in with that of Mordialloc and beyond as a gesture of cultural synthesis and pride.In Chinese culture, “Wu Fu” (五福), meaning “Five Blessings,” symbolizes a grouping of good fortunes and luck, representing longevity, wealth, health, virtue, and a peaceful death. Bats are a common symbol of “Wu Fu” because the word “fu” (福, meaning blessing) sounds similar to the word “fu” (蝠, meaning bat) in Chinese. (We love a homophone)An image of five bats together—commonly seen in Chinese textiles and design motifs, as in this character’s bracelet, represents the “Five Blessings”. Thus, I paint this piece as a blessing for Mordialloc, for Oz and all my friends at Juddy Roller”","author_name":"Virusfreak79","author_url":"https://streetartcities.com/users/4890a07d-1a28-4ac6-b66a-a22cb36c8a9a","thumbnail_url":"https://streetart.media/4/4fd060fc-7e36-4742-b2c3-9da754c68666/1024.jpg","thumbnail_width":1024,"width":480,"height":480,"html":"<iframe src=\"https://streetartcities.com/markers/45c7a3b5-2f72-4523-86ab-9df9c5daaece/embed\" width=\"480\" height=\"480\" style=\"border:none;border-radius:12px;max-width:100%;\" loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"fullscreen; storage-access\" title=\"Wufu by Lauren YS\"></iframe>","cache_age":3600}
