The location quickly transformed into a central memorial site for grieving fans from all over Germany. Because the original wall on Zollstraße was overpainted and the area was being redeveloped, fans founded the non-profit association LP \"The Wall\" Germany e.V.. With official permission from the city of Essen, the memorial was relocated to Kaiser-Wilhelm-Park (Essen-Altenessen).
