Hausbesetzer - Kiefernstraße 15 by Klaus Klinger

The mural, rendered in a comic-book style, depicts a vintage, green-and-white VW police van — a classic "Bulli" — of the riot police. Instead of officers, however, a group of armed garden gnomes — brandishing pitchforks and rolling pins — is seen storming out of the van’s doors and windows. The gnomes symbolize the fierce resistance mounted by so-called "ordinary citizens" and squatters against the state authorities of that era. At the same time, the piece parodies the stereotypical, bourgeois image of Germany — represented by the garden gnomes—by subverting it into something rebellious.
