Women on the Wall, Kathmandu by Micro Galleries, Sarah Sculley, Jyoti Shrestha

On Saturday 24 November, Micro Galleries brought together women from the local Kathmandu community, the local arts community and the international arts community to create a new mural that explores the stories and experience of Nepali women, and how this is different, or similar, to women around the world. They were provided a wall and paint which gave voice to a shared message about women’s issues, concerns, strength and dreams in order to raise their voice as a collective - locally and globally. For this iteration, the subject decided by the community was water: its importance, the burden on women to collect and use water. and how women will bear the brunt of climate change issues. This mural is on the wall of a community space where women gather, next to a workshop where men work. Part of Micro Galleries Kathmandu, 2018 / www.microgalleries.org/kathmandu
