Peter ‘Leaky’ Simpson by Claire Foxton

Pave the way to Gular Festival. This portrait by Claire Foxton is of a local legend, the late Peter ‘Leaky’ Simpson. He was the community bush plumper who once owned the building that it’s painted on. The Building itself has a strong history in Gulargambone. The building was build in the 20’s and was a picture theatre at one time. It eventually housed Peter’s plumbing business for 30 years. He called it ‘Simmo’s Bazaar’.When the community decided to set up a cultural / tourism hotspot for the town, Peter offered the hall for a very small token sum. He loved his town and wanted to see it flourish.
