The best-known story tells that the god Apollo and she were struck by arrows shot by Eros. Apollo was struck by a golden arrow, which filled him with a mad desire, whilst Daphne received a lead arrow, which inspired in her a loathing of love. Apollo therefore pursued Daphne with his attentions until he was exhausted.
