La Main que tu tends à l’Autre… by Jason Botkin

The mural La Main que tu tends à l’Autre… (“The Hand You Extend to the Other…”) depicts a symbolic encounter between two figures: a gargoyle, a mythical creature resembling a waterspout, and an angel. The two figures reach out and hold hands. The inscription on the left reads: “La main que tu tends à l’autre c’est aussi…” (“The hand you extend to the other is also…”). The sentence remains unfinished, leaving room for interpretation. In combination with the figures, the motif can be read as a poetic reflection on human relationships, encounters and solidarity.Canadian artist Jason Botkin created the mural in Laon in July 2025. It was produced in the context of the fourth Festival international des Arts urbains de Laon, held from 30 June to 6 July 2025, which brought new murals and a range of urban art events to the city. The work is located at the CCAS, Laon’s municipal social services centre.
