Richmond's Landmark Town Centre Mural by A&K art

A sprawling, multi-part landmark mural transforming a town centre alleyway into a continuous celebration of iconic local landmarks, natural landscapes, and wildlife, created by the local artist duo A&K Art (Alice and Katie).ABOUT THE ARTISTS: A&K Art is a London-based local artist duo made up of Alice Brewer and Katie Clayton. Both artists grew up in the London Borough of Richmond, which gives them a deep, personal connection to the local history and culture they frequently depict in their work. They specialize in designing and creating bespoke, large-scale hand-painted murals that celebrate community heritage, local wildlife, and natural landscapes.ABOUT THE PIECE:The Archway Scenes (Through Richmond Bridge): The painted stone arches of Richmond Bridge act as physical frames or windows, with each archway giving the illusion of looking through the bridge to see a different iconic local scene:Arch 1 (Richmond Theatre): Depicts the red brick and green domes of the historic theatre building.Arch 2 (Hill Rise): Shows a steep, curving high street with a painted "HILL RISE" street sign.Arch 3 (River Thames): Highlights several colourful wooden rowboats moored in rippling water.Arch 4 (Richmond Hill): Recreates the famous, protected view from Richmond Hill looking down white steps toward the winding river and green meadows.Arch 5 (Richmond Park): Silhouettes two large stags standing among trees bathed in yellow sunlight. The Castle Yard Wildlife Wall: The mural begins on the tall side-wall of the building, featuring a massive heron inspired by the wildlife of nearby Corporation Island. To the heron's left, a brightly coloured kingfisher is depicted mid-flight, which was painted specifically as a tribute to the Wilkinson family (the landlords of the building).Project Context & Commemorative Plaque: Painted onto the stone above the first arch is a blue heritage plaque reading "In memory of ANN WILKINSON." Her sons, Guy and Neil Wilkinson, landlords of the Hill Street building, worked closely with the artists to incorporate these family connections. The mural was commissioned by Be Richmond (the local business improvement district) as part of a placemaking programme and officially unveiled by Mayor Nancy Baldwin.HUNTER NOTE:Original hunt and photographs by hunter Lulo.
