Raster #1 - Kiefernstraße 19 by Ben Mathis

A geometric grid facade painted in various shades of green. The pattern is based on the principle of the Hermann grid, a classic optical illusion. When looking at it, illusory gray dots appear at the intersections of the white lines, which vanish as soon as you look at them directly. A central element of the facade is a floating green Buddha. This spiritual figure serves as a recurring theme for the building. For a long time, an image of this Buddha also adorned the original front door.In summer 2025, the resident community ("KiefernKraft") meticulously restored the building's roughly 100-year-old Art Deco front door, color-matching it perfectly to Ben Mathis's green geometric grid. Additionally, they placed a wooden bench in front of the house, painted in the exact same characteristic style as the facade.
