Life Finds A Way by Taqi Spateen

The mural Life Finds A Way depicts a sailing ship on rough seas. Below it, an olive tree and delicate Easter lilies emerge from a field of rubble. Palestinian artist Taqi Spateen created the mural in June 2024 in collaboration with the Beechmount Residents’ Collective. It is located on Crocus Street in the Beechmount neighbourhood of west Belfast. The mural was unveiled on 23 June 2024.The work forms part of a series of murals Spateen created in Belfast in 2024 to draw attention to the situation of Palestinians. These works express solidarity with the Palestinian people. The olive tree, a prominent symbol of Palestinian culture and landscape, evokes a connection to homeland and rootedness. The plants growing from the rubble counter the imagery of destruction with a vision of renewal.Life Finds A Way replaced the lower section of an earlier mural entitled In Search Of A Better Life, which addressed migration and had previously been damaged.
