Flossies im Medienhafen by Gudrun Müller aka rosalie

From 2002 on for many years, the 29 oversized, brightly colored plastic "Flossies" were one of the most colorful and beloved landmarks in Düsseldorf's MedienHafen. They were located at the red brick facade of the historic Roggendorf-Haus on Speditionstraße. They were originally intended as a temporary exhibition for the opening of the NRW-Forum but became a permanent fixture due to their popularity. In 2018, the installation had to be completely dismantled due to safety concerns. Decades of weather exposure had made the plastic brittle and fragile, posing a risk that parts of the heavy sculptures could break off and fall onto the pedestrian walkway below. A total of 24 of the colorful sculptures scaled the brick facade of house number 15a. Five additional figures were mounted on the immediate neighboring building.
