Auteur en illustrator Leo Timmers groeide op in Houthalen en is vooral bekend van zijn prentenboeken en kleurrijke dierenfiguren. Dit werk is Timmers' eerste echte mural. In het werk komt zijn herkenbare beeldtaal met dieren en figuren weer naar voren. Tegelijk verwijzen de verschillende elementen naar het leven en leren op school. Ook de plaatselijke harmonie kreeg een plaats in het ontwerp.Timmers creëerde zelf de volledige illustratie. The local brass band was also given a place in the design.Timmers created the entire illustration himself. The actual painting on the façade was carried out by Urbana.
