1.0 rich Street Art Cities https://streetartcities.com The White Ribbon Promise Bench is a commemorative, community-created mosaic bench installed in Trinity Square directly below the Sutton Heritage Mosaic, dedicated to ending violence against women and girls.ABOUT THE ARTIST:The bench was created by London-based community artists Samia Tossio and Hana Horack-Elyafi (of Team Imagineers). Commissioned by Sutton Council, the artists hosted collaborative public workshops where local residents and community groups helped handcraft and assemble the mosaic elements. Their practice focuses on therapeutic, inclusive public art that empowers local communities through tactile mediums such as ceramics, textiles, and glass mosaic.ABOUT THE PIECE:Purpose & Dedication: Commissioned as a dedicated civic memorial and a physical pledge in support of the international White Ribbon campaign, creating a public space of reflection and remembrance committed to ending violence against women and girls.Design & Symbolism: Features a brightly colored, uplifting design composed of hearts, doves of peace, floral motifs, and a prominent white ribbon emblem woven into the mosaic surface.Materials & Execution: Crafted using vitreous glass mosaic, handcrafted ceramic tiles, and weather-resistant resin, shaped into an inviting, double-sided civic bench.Unveiling: Officially unveiled in Trinity Square on March 5, 2022, ahead of International Women’s Day.DOCUMENTATION NOTE:Situated in Trinity Square, Sutton, directly in front of the 1994 vertical Sutton Heritage Mosaic by Rob Turner and Gary Drostle. It is an entirely separate installation with its own distinct artists, history, and community dedication.
