Estas pinturas en trampantojo (ilusión óptica) representan de forma humorística a personajes de la famosa novela Fortunata y Jacinta de Benito Pérez Galdós, plasmados piso a piso por el célebre dibujante y humorista. fueron diseñadas por Antonio Mingote. El genial dibujante, humorista y académico creó los bocetos originales de estos trampantojos galdosianos. La inauguración oficial tuvo lugar el 30 de noviembre de 2001. El propio Mingote, que en ese momento tenía casi 83 años, llegó a subirse a una grúa para dar los últimos toques y rubricar con pincel en mano los murales de la fachada. El proyecto formó parte de un plan municipal para embellecer los muros ciegos del centro histórico de Madrid.
