1.0 rich Street Art Cities https://streetartcities.com This mural by Nina Valkhoff on the side of the apartment building on Schellingburg marks the completion of the redevelopment of the Muntenbuurt neighborhood.The redevelopment is part of Better Neighbourhoods (Betere Buurten), an initiative by the Municipality of Nieuwegein. Together with local residents and the housing association Woonin, the municipality is working to improve the public space and enhance the quality of life in the neighbourhood. A series of murals and paintings in entrance halls forms part of this project.During the community meetings held prior to the creation of this mural, residents expressed a strong wish to include a stork in the design. The bird refers to the stork's nest near the local sports hall, which has been home to a pair of storks for many years and has become a much-loved landmark in the neighbourhood. The green in the mural evokes the herb garden that has been located on Nedereindseweg for many years.Nina spent three weeks creating the mural during a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures occasionally reaching as high as 39°C (102°F). Although she only painted between 10:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., when the wall was in the shade, she said it sometimes felt as though she was standing inside an air fryer. The upside of the extreme heat was that the paint dried incredibly quickly.==========Deze muurschildering van Nina Valkhoff op de zijkant van het flatgebouw op de Schellingburg vormt de afronding van de herinrichting van de Muntenbuurt.De herinrichting maakt deel uit van Betere Buurten, een initiatief van de gemeente Nieuwegein. Samen met bewoners en woningcorporatie Woonin wordt gewerkt aan het verbeteren van de openbare ruimte en de leefbaarheid in de wijk. De verschillende muur- en schilderingen in portieken vormen een onderdeel van dit project.Tijdens de bewonersbijeenkomsten die voorafgingen aan deze muurschildering kwam nadrukkelijk de wens naar voren om een ooievaar in het ontwerp op te nemen. Dit als verwijzing naar het ooievaarsnest bij de nabijgelegen sporthal, dat al jarenlang wordt bewoond door een ooievaarspaar en een geliefd herkenningspunt in de buurt is. Het groen op de schildering associeert met de kruidentuin die al vele jaren op de Nedereindse weg is.Nina werkte drie weken aan het kunstwerk, midden in een langdurige hittegolf waarbij de temperatuur soms opliep tot wel 39 graden Celsius. Hoewel zij alleen tussen 10.30 en 19.00 uur schilderde, wanneer de muur in de schaduw lag, vertelde ze dat het soms voelde alsof ze in een airfryer stond. Het voordeel van de extreme warmte was wel dat de verf razendsnel droogde.
