The coordinates of the site are 41.53249, 41.54968The significance of the monument is connected with the Georgian Christian tradition. According to tradition, Saint Andrew came to this area and preached Christianity in the territory of ancient Georgia. The site is therefore regarded as a symbolic “entry of Christianity into Georgia.”A particularly interesting inscription can be found on a nearby plaque:“The road through Georgia is the road of enlightenment. This project is dedicated to the arrival of Saint Andrew the First-Called in Georgia.”At the same time, it is important to distinguish Christian tradition from historically documented fact: Andrew’s journeys through the Caucasus belong primarily to Christian tradition, and his exact route cannot be established with historical certainty.The complex, including the sculpture and the waterfall, was opened in 2008.The location was chosen deliberately: the road runs along the coast just before Sarpi, with a small waterfall nearby.
