Was ist Liebe? (What Is Love?) by Indian

The mural shows the faces of two children, right hands raised. The intense gazes seem to convey vulnerability, defensiveness, but also a longing for closeness. The mural is part of the series "Was ist Liebe?" ("What Is Love?") by the Frankfurt-based graffiti artist Indian (Sebastian Stehr). He’s comprising portraits and philosophical texts, intended to prompt reflection among viewers. Indian writes about his series: ‘More than 100 walls. More than 100 messages. In 4 different countries. Short written messages next to a piece have a long tradition in graffiti. It dates back to NYC graffiti writing in the 80s—or maybe even earlier. When I started the What Is Love series, it quickly evolved from short messages into longer, more profound lyrics. The term "philosophical graffiti" emerged. It took around 5 years to create more than 100 walls.’
