Samsui Woman At Rest by Sean Dunston

Tribute to the hardworking Samsui women who were heavily involved in the early development of Singapore. Highlighting the resilience, strength and attitude of a Samsui woman, she is seen seated on a stool holding a cigarette during a work break, dressed in blue coveralls and red headdress. In her other hand, a Taoist charm which keeps her connected to family and tradition. This artwork was the subject of controversy when the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) of Singapore received a complaint that they were depicted otherwise. After comprehensive public involvement and feedback, the URA a few weeks later agreed to retain the mural without censoring the cigarette.
