Mary and Saint Anthony of Padua by Suzanne van Soest, THSA

In the side wall of the chapel of St Anthony of Padua there are paintings in two empty niches. The purpose of these paintings is to create a connection between the chapel and the center of The Hague. The first painting depicts Holy Virgin Mary and was inspired by a statue in the chapel. The second painting is of Saint Anthony of Padua. This Franciscan monk is depicted meditating with a Bible in his hand on which the baby Jesus appears. The white lily is a symbol of his purity.
