Mechelen Muurt 1.0

Mechelen Muurt colours your visit to Mechelen! Since 2015, forgotten corners of the city have come to life. Former city artist Gijs Vanhee started the art project Mechelen Muurt, in which artists from the Netherlands and abroad take care of buildings with a paintbrush and spray can. For the time being, Mechelen Muurt consists of two phases.Mechelen Muurt 1.0In 2014 and 2015, the city received some big names from the street art scene, including Smates and Mark Goss. Milu Correch took over a 12-metre-high wall in the Langhestraat with her adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. The first phase of Mechelen Muurt was completed by Gijs Vanhee himself. 'The Gift' symbolically expresses the project: a gesture of giving the street back to the people who live there, by tackling cold bare walls with colour and story.LocationsShamisa Debroey ‘1 Mijl Onder Zee’ Mosselschelpstraatje 1Smates ‘Onderwaterhond’ De Langhestraat 47Milu Correch ‘Alicia Duerme’ De Langhestraat 43Sam Scarpulla ‘The Freeway’ Nieuwe Kapucijnenstraat 45Mark Goss ‘Floral Skullball’ Hoogstraat 1Gijs Vanhee ‘The Gift’ Adegemstraat 1Jurgen Gielen ‘At plante en have er at pa morgendagen’ De Langhestraat 21DZIA ‘Pelikaan’ Lange Schipstraat 49Samuel Vanderveken ‘Imagine’ Varkensstraat
