The Sawn Memorial by Nikita Spires

“The Swan Memorial” — by Nikita SpiresOn the 11th of May 2023, a pair of swans were cruelly killed and their eggs stolen at this very spot. In response, artist Nikita Spires created “The Swan Memorial” — a heartfelt tribute to their loss and a reminder of compassion for all living creatures. The mural depicts two swans forming a heart, their white feathers melting into blue water to symbolise fading memory. Above them, a painted “like” icon comments on society’s fleeting attention, while a plaque beside the piece reads:“The brush is mightier than the sword.”Through this emotional work, Spires transforms tragedy into awareness — using art to advocate for empathy, remembrance, and change.
